Kathy Hubbard—Owner
Kathy & Bob, her husband of 33 years, have 8 children and 7 grandchildren. This definitely influences her teaching philosophy. “To use every mothering skill I’ve learned in 33 years to share my love of the water with all my students.”
Kathy received her English degree from Xavier University, Ohio in 1972. Her Jesuit English professor inspired her to teach and to write. It’s just taking her a while to get to those goals!
Kathy swam competitively at the National level through college and qualified for the 1968 Olympic Trials. She soloed in a Piper Cherokee airplane at age 16 and her NAUI certification has a date of 1967 on it! In 1984 she finaled at the Masters National Swimming Championships just to prove that old moms can still swim! In 1988 she was inducted into Xavier University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
From 1970 to 1972 she was the director of Fort Scott Summer Camps outside of Cincinnati, OH. Those experiences were the foundation for the Hubbard Summer Sports Camp. In the late 70’s Bob & Kathy were co-owners of Swim World, a swim suit retail store that kept them busy while Bob finished law school. Then came a number of years in the corporate world with American Continental which included work on the Crescent and the Phoenician Hotels. 1993 found the Hubbards at Phoenix Swim Club creating and designing a swim lesson curriculum to fund the efforts of an elite level swim team. In 1996 Bob and Kathy founded Hubbard Family Swim School. Years of varied experiences all came together and allowed the Hubbards to pursue an opportunity that was challenging, rewarding and a really good fit!
In the midst of all this, chasing and raising the eight kids has kept life on track. Volunteer positions over the years include Xavier University Alumni Board of Directors, and over 14 years on every committee and classroom effort that St. Thomas the Apostle had to offer.
